Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector (Construction) to inspect highway and bridge projects, review materials, and perform field testing. The role emphasizes outdoor work, problem-solving, and clear communication with staff and stakeholders.

You will handle documentation, calculations, and reports to support project progress while coordinating with vendors and adapting to site needs.

Qualifications

• Three years of highway/bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work.
• Three years of quality control of materials or building/construction industry experience with plans/blueprints.
• One year as Engineering Technician or Two years as Transportation Technician/Construction Cost Technician.
• One year of construction inspection experience with related engineering technology degree, or equivalent.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all phases of transportation construction to verify compliance with codes and plans.
• Examine placement of materials such as concrete and drainage components.
• Perform compaction testing and assess soil/aggregate conditions.
• Complete calculations, estimates and reports to support project tracking.
• Communicate with staff, agencies, and the public to support project administration.
• Assist with resolving issues that arise during construction activities.
