Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector (Construction) to support outdoor infrastructure projects, ensuring safety and quality from planning through completion. The role involves inspecting all phases of transportation construction, reviewing materials, conducting compaction tests, and documenting calculations and reports.

Telework may be approved ad-hoc after probation; standard hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday

Qualifications

Three years of highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
Three years of quality control of materials or construction industry experience
One year as an Engineering Technician or Transportation Technician/Cost Technician
Two years as a Construction/Transportation Technician 1, as applicable
One year of construction inspection experience with related engineering degree
Equivalent combination of experience and training

Responsibilities

Inspect all phases of transportation construction to verify compliance with plans and codes
Examine placement of concrete, drainage components and other materials
Perform compaction tests and assess soil and aggregate conditions
Complete calculations, estimates, and reports to support project tracking
Communicate with staff, agencies, and the public to support project administration
Assist with resolving issues that arise during construction activities
