Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Transportation Technician (Construction) to support highway and bridge projects across the district. You will assist inspectors, review documentation, and ensure accuracy of costs, quantities, and field records.

Telework is possible ad-hoc after probation, with PA-residency requirements and a valid driver’s license. Typical hours are 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch; starting salary is $41,506 annually for new hires within the Commonwealth.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work.
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Construction Support: Assist construction inspectors by reviewing work documentation, material usage, and project records to ensure accuracy.
• Technical Reviews: Verify costs, quantities, and calculations by performing audits of project documentation and work orders.
• Field Inspection: Inspect road and bridge construction operations and permit work to confirm compliance with plans and specifications.
• Traffic Control: Check placement and maintenance of work zone signs and devices according to approved plans and standards.
• Material Testing: Test materials incorporated into projects and collect required certifications and delivery forms.
• Project Analysis: Review earthwork, quantity records, and calculations to ensure payments and documentation meet department requirements.
