Job summary

S&ME, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Construction Materials Engineering Technician to perform field testing and observations on active project sites in Wilmington, NC.

You will operate company vehicles, review project requirements, document results, and ensure material quality across soils, concrete, and asphalt. The role emphasizes field work outdoors, adherence to IBC standards, and collaboration with project teams.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction testing/inspecting soil, concrete, masonry, or asphalt materials.
• Active certifications: ACI Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; ICC Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils).
• Effective communication in English (spoken, read, written).
• Good math skills with weight, volume, pressure, and measurement units understanding.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and adapt to fluctuating schedules.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record; able to operate company vehicle.
• Willing to complete background, driving record, and drug screen on offer.

Responsibilities

• Review project requirements before fieldwork and accurately record observations and test results for soils, concrete, asphalt, and related materials.
• Use field and laboratory information systems to manage data (Metafield).
• Maintain field and lab equipment to meet industry standards.
• Follow IBC standards when testing and inspecting construction materials.
• Communicate with management, contractors, and clients to report progress and resolve issues.
