Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) seeks a Field Technician II to perform testing, inspection, and maintenance of substation electrical equipment with increasing independence. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and hands-on problem solving while supporting commissioning activities.

Responsibilities include testing high/low voltage equipment, inspecting breakers/transformers, troubleshooting issues, and documenting work. Travel may be required; a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen due to safety-sensitive position.
  • Background check required for employment.
  • Willingness to overtime and travel out of town.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred.
  • Understanding of LOTO / arc flash / grounding concepts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety policies and PPE requirements in substation environments.
  • Participate in safety training, meetings, and job briefings; help identify hazards.
  • Support safety culture through hazard reporting and safe work practices.
  • Perform testing of high, medium, and low voltage equipment with limited supervision.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain circuit breakers, transformers, instrument transformers, grounding systems, battery systems, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues using schematics and manuals; escalate complex problems.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance, including repairs and adjustments.
  • Execute functional checks and assist commissioning activities to verify readiness for service.
  • Document testing, maintenance, and repairs accurately per project requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and senior technicians to complete field activities efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to standards.
