Job summary

Lumen Technologies in Austin, TX, is seeking a Field Technician I to support asset management, provisioning, and on-site maintenance of fiber and network equipment. You will install, test, and troubleshoot transmission and IP network systems and assist in restoring services quickly to minimize downtime.

The role requires staying on-call, lifting up to 50 lbs, and a commitment to safe, compliant operations across HVAC and DC power infrastructure. On-site collaboration with teams is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or up to 2 years of relevant job experience in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Experience and knowledge of at least one major technician discipline: Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant.
• Ability to locate fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• Must maintain site security and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, removes/replaces defective equipment, and works to restore network service.
• Install and test Next Generation technologies such as Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP network layers for all bandwidths.
• Locate and protect underground outside plant facilities using industry tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, high‑voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
• Maintain asset records and coordinate shipping/receiving of materials; update logs and reports.
