Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Field Technician I in Ohio to support asset management, deliveries, and provisioning of transmission equipment. You will assist in installs, tests, and maintenance of fiber optic and IP networks, troubleshoot equipment, track spares, and update trouble tickets and records.

This entry-level role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1+ year related experience, PC skills with Windows and Office, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
• Ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
• On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis; overtime may be required.
• Valid driver’s license; able to lift 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective components, and coordinates with teams to restore service.
• Installs, provisions, tests, and maintains Next Gen technologies (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber, Ethernet, IP layers).
• Utilizes standard tools to locate, mark, and protect underground facilities.
• Performs preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure, including HVAC and DC power.
• Maintains asset records, coordinates shipping/receiving, and updates trouble tickets and logs.
• Generates status reports and communicates issues to management.
