Job summary

Lumen in Indiana is seeking a Field Technician I to support asset management, handle deliveries and replenishment of consumables, and coordinate shipping and receiving of materials. You will maintain tools, test sets, and electronic equipment including fiber optic and power gear, and assist in installs, provisions, tests, and maintenance from DS0 to OC192 services.

You should have a high school diploma or GED, be able to lift 50 lbs, possess a valid driver’s license, and be ready for on-call

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Entry-level technician with knowledge of Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant.
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• Must maintain site security and cleanliness.
• Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office.
• Must learn corporate databases quickly.
• On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis; on stand-by, dispatch and overtime may be required.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; lift 50 lbs; works in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective modules and restores service.
• Assists in installation, change, decommission, and testing of Next Gen technologies.
• Marks and protects underground facilities using standard tools.
• Supports AC/DC power installs on limited basis.
• Manages asset/process replenishment and coordinates shipping/receiving.
• Performs preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure.
• Learns trouble ticket, provisioning, time tracking, and materials systems.
• Provides regular status updates and reports issues to management.
• Assesses performance and identifies areas for improvement.
