Job summary

Quest Industrial in Middleton, WI, is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, and repair complex automated equipment. You will support robotics, controls, and customer advisory work to solve challenges for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex machinery and equipment at customer sites.
  • Train operators and technicians on machine setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical support via phone, remote connection, or on-site.
  • Modify and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programs.
  • Commission, test, and debug robotic and automated packaging systems.
  • Provide on-call emergency service and document issues and solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with inspection and quality specs during installations.
  • Read engineering drawings and work with CAD drawings to perform tasks.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Operations to address inquiries.

In this role, you’ll support the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial automated equipment and showcase your robotics, controls, and customer advisory skillset to solve complex challenges for our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Travel to customers’ facilities to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex machinery and equipment.
  • Train customers’ operators and technicians on machine setup, operation, change‑over, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to customers via phone, remote connection, or on‑site for electrical/controls, mechanical, and robotic equipment and systems.
  • Modify and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programs for existing packaging equipment.
  • Commission, test, and debug robotic and automated packaging systems.
  • Provide on‑call emergency service and maintain communication while in the field.
  • Prepare detailed trip reports, documenting encountered issues and solutions; maintain records of service calls, training, and expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with inspection, testing, and quality specifications during machine installations and integrations.
  • Identify and correct hardware and software discrepancies in machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and identify opportunities for product improvements and parts sales.
  • Work from complex engineering drawings, specifications, and manuals to perform mechanical and electrical tasks.
  • Collaborate with other departments—Engineering, Sales, and Operations—to address inquiries and provide technical support as needed.
  • Study technical manuals and attend training sessions to maintain current knowledge.
  • Support manufacturing when required and help perform and conclude both Pre‑FAT and FAT.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation programming software with the ability to connect to Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs for troubleshooting and some coding.
  • Proficiency troubleshooting electrical circuits, I/O devices, VFDs, servo motors, and various industrial networks.
  • Experience with robotic applications—including programming and vision (Fanuc preferred).
  • Hands‑on experience working with industrial automation equipment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Understanding and markup of electrical schematics; ability to read 2D and 3D AutoCAD mechanical assembly drawings.
  • A minimum Bachelor’s degree emphasizing Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or Robotic Programming.
  • Strong customer service skills and a desire to work.
  • PLC programming, HMI development, and troubleshooting skills.
  • General understanding of automation—including but not limited to high‑speed assembly machinery, SCADA, Gantry, Six‑Axis Robotics, FANUC robots, and general automation technology.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD electrical is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Ladder Logic, Studio 5000, and Factory Talk are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 95%.
