National Underground Group, located in Clarksville, VA, invites a Locate Technician to join our field operations. You will use mechanical and technical equipment to locate underground facilities and mark lines, coordinating with excavation crews and homeowners to ensure accuracy and safety.

This role requires a willingness to learn, the ability to work outdoors in all weather, a valid driver’s license, and the physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and walk varying terrains.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn; Instructor-led training to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and operate independently.
• On-call availability to perform locate duties outside normal hours.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to access restricted areas (federal installations).
• Strong work ethic.
• Proficient computer use for documentation and email.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to walk varied terrain in all weather; may walk up to 5 miles/day.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities such as telephone lines, electrical power lines, cable TV lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines.
• Communicate with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues.
• Interpret job order tickets and respond to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Read maps and blueprints to ensure accurate location of utilities.
• Determine efficient route to each locate in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
