Job summary

Benchmark is seeking a Locate Technician in Clarksville, VA to identify underground utilities with precision using mechanical and technical equipment. You will coordinate with crews and homeowners, read maps, and ensure safe, accurate locations on site.

The role requires a willingness to learn, a valid driver's license, physical ability to lift and walk long distances, and comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn – Instructor led training is required to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and to operate independently.
• On-call duties may require locate work after normal hours.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Able to access restricted areas as needed (e.g., federal installations).
• Strong work ethic and reliability.
• Capable of using a computer for documentation and email.
• Able to lift/pull/push at least 50 pounds.
• Able to walk up to 5 miles daily across various terrains and weather.
• Salary stated: $20–$26 per hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities accurately.
• Communicate with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners daily about locate issues.
• Interpret tickets and maps/blueprints to ensure precise utility locations.
• Plan efficient routes for locates in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids as required.
