Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to lead protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance for high‑voltage substations. You will guide crews in complex outage work and serve as a technical resource in the field.

The role emphasizes deep protection knowledge, microprocessor relays, and relay schemes, with travel to client sites within the region. A NETA certification and OSHA training support the role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Experience testing medium-to-high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and relay schemes.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Ability to interpret protection diagrams and AC/DC schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety briefings and tailboards in the field.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.).
• Verify control/protection circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, and capacitor banks.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Lead onsite technicians and coordinate with PMs, operators, and customers.
• Create and maintain accurate test reports and field documentation.
• Mentor junior relay technicians and participate in customer technical discussions.
