Job summary

Terracon in Hoover, Alabama, seeks a Field/Lab Materials Testing Technician to perform testing, observation, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel on construction sites.

You will communicate test results to project managers, maintain equipment, and assist with scheduling. A valid driver's license and basic computer skills are required; NICET/ICC certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
• MS Word and Excel proficiency; valid driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed per training and procedures.
• Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
• Performs basic data analysis to verify accuracy before submission to the Project Manager.
• Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
• Assists higher level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintains assigned equipment and calibration.
• Follows safety rules and pre-task planning; raises safety concerns to management.
• Keeps quality standards on all projects.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

NICET Level II certifications in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt/Concrete/Soils)

NICET Level II in Geotechnical (Construction/Laboratory/Exploration/Generalist)

ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Welding)

AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI)

ASNT Level II (VT/MT/PT/RT/UT) certifications

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I

ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician

Radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation certification

Internal safety certifications (as required)
