Job summary

AFL is seeking a field service technician to perform on-site fiber optic installations, drops, and testing at customer locations in the greater Washington area. You will read layout drawings, jumpers, install ONT/power, and configure customer equipment while educating customers on internet access and home networking.

You must have your own vehicle and tools, own safety gear, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced field environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate with customers effectively and professionally.
• Ability to read a mainframe/cross-connect/control point layout to run jumpers.
• Ability to read, understand and follow instructions on dispatched jobs, trouble tickets, project prints, and sequence sheets.
• Ability to utilize test equipment and interpret test results for all workstreams.
• Necessary computer skills and Android platform mobile device usage.
• Basic electricity and installation techniques for xDSL and fiber drops.

Responsibilities

• Read layouts and run jumpers per instructions.
• Install fiber optic jumpers and drops (aerial, buried, and plenum).
• Install ONT and power supplies; configure customer equipment.
• Educate customers on internet access and home networking.
• Use test equipment to verify service and interpret results.
• Work with routers and home networking equipment.
• Follow safety protocols and OSHA requirements.
• Possess and use own vehicle and tools as needed.
