Fiber Optic Field Technician — Install, Test & Repair

Job summary

AFL is seeking a field technician to support fiber optic installations and related services. The role involves working with customers, reading layouts, installing fiber drops, configuring home networks, and ensuring safety protocols in the field.

Candidates must have their own vehicle and tools and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include wiring, testing, educating customers about internet access, and coordinating with dispatch for scheduled jobs.

Qualifications

• Effective communication with customers.
• Ability to read mainframe/cross-connect/layouts and run jumpers.
• Interpret test results for multiple workstreams.
• Use test equipment and read results.
• Android device app usage for field work.
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Experience with COAX/CAT5 and fiber/copper facilities.

Responsibilities

• Install and configure fiber jumpers and drops (aerial, buried, plenum).
• Educate customers on internet access and network basics.
• Operate and test home networks and VOIP/copper services where applicable.
• Coordinate with dispatch and follow installation/repair procedures.
• Ensure safety standards and proper use of ladders and PPE.
