Job summary

Osmose Utilities Services is seeking a Field Data Technician to collect detailed data on outdoor utility and telecom facilities. The role involves hiking between utility poles to capture measurements and supporting outside plant engineering and fiber-optic projects.

Training will be provided. The position requires routine overnight travel, with weekends home and occasional longer stays. Compensation includes hourly pay, bonuses, travel reimbursements, and living allowances.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical background preferred.
• Basic knowledge of telecommunications and/or electrical distribution systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of pole design including NESC requirements and general safety practices is a plus.
• Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather and have the desire to actively participate in physically demanding work lifting 15 to 20 lbs. regularly.
• Basic proficiency with computers including the ability to read, interpret and follow GPS maps.
• Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines in an extremely high-quality, high paced environment.
• Ability to travel and work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.
• Present a professional appearance and attitude.
• Demonstrate high work standards and attention to detail with a quality orientation.

• Minimum 1 year of outdoor work-related experience
• Minimum 1 year working in a role that required following a safety program or safety protocols (must provide details)
• Minimum 6 months experience working in a quality-controlled environment (must provide details)
• Minimum 6 months experience traveling to various work locations to include occasional overnight stays
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Responsibilities

• Work in an outdoor environment to collect field data that supports engineering and design of fiber optic cable facilities.
• Submit organized, detailed data for each project that could include maps, field notes and digital images.
• Operate and maintain equipment including tablet computer, digital camera, measuring tools and PPE.
• Work professionally in the field as a representative of Osmose and our customers.
• Communicate effectively and daily with the project management team.
• Work safely and independently with minimal supervision.
