Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking a Construction Engineering Inspector to ensure private development and CIP projects meet City codes and standards. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and problem solving to deliver safe, well-built public infrastructure.

The position interacts with customers, coordinates with engineers and contractors, and participates in testing and field inspections of water, sewer, and street systems. Excellent benefits accompany this on-site role.

Qualifications

• 2 years college-level coursework in construction management, engineering, or closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years journey-level development engineering (below-ground infrastructure) construction or inspection experience.
• Or 4 years of relevant education and experience.
• Valid drivers’ license and ability to pass driving record/background checks.

Responsibilities

• Review construction work in progress and materials to ensure specs and standards compliance.
• Inspect various PW projects for conformance with specs, ordinances, and regs.
• Examine site grades and test materials (sand, gravel, concrete, aggregates).
• Assess and test water mains and fire hydrants.
• Inspect trenching, backfilling, and underground cable installations.
• Prepare field notes, diaries, and as-built drawings.
• Coordinate with design engineer, contractor, plan reviewer, supplier to resolve issues.
• Provide information to the public on methods, materials, permits.
