Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking a Construction Engineering Inspector in the Construction Engineering section of the Development Engineering Team. The role ensures private development and Capital Improvement Projects meet City Codes and Standards, emphasizing safe, quality construction and strong teamwork.

The ideal candidate has strong communication, problem-solving and customer service skills, plus experience in underground infrastructure and site inspections.

Qualifications

• 2 years college-level coursework in construction management, engineering, or closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years journey-level development engineering (below-ground infrastructure) construction or inspection experience.
• Or 4 years of relevant education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Review construction work in progress and materials to ensure compliance with specifications, plans and standards.
• Inspect Public Works construction installation projects for conformance with City ordinances and regulations.
• Examine construction site grades and test materials (sand, gravel, concrete pours, aggregates).
• Assess and test water mains and fire hydrants.
• Inspect trenching, backfilling, and underground cables installation.
