Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol’s Norfolk, VA office seeks a Construction Inspector / Bridge Inspector with 3–7 years of heavy construction or inspection experience. The role requires a degreed Civil Engineer and offers field and office work across Hampton Roads. Certifications and NBIS readiness are highly valued.

The position involves inspecting bridges, culverts, and roadways, coordinating with engineers, and producing detailed reports. A robust benefits package accompanies the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
• 3–7 years of heavy construction experience and/or inspection oversight on transportation projects.
• NBIS Inspector experience preferred; NBIS certifications (NHI-130055/130053) if applicable.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and standards.
• Willingness to work in the field five days per week with occasional evenings/weekends.
• Consent to drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

• Inspect bridges and transportation structures during construction to evaluate method, workmanship, quality and compliance with drawings and specs.
• Prepare bridge inspection reports including data entry and photo editing.
• Coordinate with engineers and contractor personnel for inspections and RFIs.
• Review shop drawing submittals and respond to RFIs as needed.
