Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol in Norfolk, VA is seeking a mid-level Structural Engineer Inspector Bridge & Waterfront to lead field inspections of bridges, highways and waterfront sites. You will use FHWA/NHI criteria and work onsite with our inspection team.

Requirements include a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, PE licensure, 4–7 years of inspection experience, and ability to travel 10–15%. Field work is outdoors; some weekends may be required. Post-offer background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer licensure is required; with ability to obtain in Virginia via reciprocity within 6 months.
• 4 to 7 years of structural inspection experience.
• FHWA-NHI-130055 certification.
• NSTM/Fracture Critical FHWA-NHI-130078 certification.
• Waterfront inspection experience preferred.
• Field requirements: 5 days per week, occasional weekends, travel 10-15%.
• Boater Safety Card preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads, coordinates and participates in field inspections, condition assessments and construction observation.
• Prepares technical reports, specifications and cost estimates for design, rehabilitation and inspection projects.
• Provides quality assurance reviews of inspection reports.
• Ensures adherence to the Quality Management System.
• Collaborates with other professionals to gather project information.
