Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Construction Inspector / Bridge Inspector for our Norfolk, VA office. The role requires 3 to 7 years of heavy construction inspection experience on transportation projects, including bridges, culverts, and roadways, and a degreed Civil Engineer.

The ideal candidate will be AS AN NBIS inspector or willing to become one, with field-oriented capabilities and strong reporting skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Minimum Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
Transportation-related inspection experience in the United States.
3–7 years of heavy construction/inspection on transportation projects.
NBIS inspector experience preferred; bridge certifications beneficial.
Willingness to field-work 5 days/week; travel as required.
Post-offer drug screen and background check required.
E-Verify employment compliance.

Responsibilities

Inspect bridges, transportation structures and other constructions during construction.
Evaluate workmanship and compliance with drawings and specs; document with reports.
Collect data, maintain records, and prepare estimates.
Coordinate with engineers, contractors and local government as needed.
Prepare RFI responses and review shop drawings.
Assist NBIS inspection tasks and bridge reports as required.
Support project elements including planning and follow-up.
