Moffatt & Nichol in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Construction Inspector/Bridge Inspector with 3–7 years of heavy construction experience and NBIS knowledge. The role requires a Civil Engineer degree and EIT certification, with field inspection responsibilities and report writing for transportation projects including bridges and roadways.

The position offers full-time employment in the Norfolk office, with travel and field work as needed, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
• 3 to 7 years of heavy construction experience and/or inspection oversight on transportation projects.
• Experience with bridges, culverts, and roadways preferred.
• NBIS Inspector experience or willingness to become certified.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and standards.
• Willingness to travel and work in the field 5 days a week.
• Post-offer/pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect bridges, transportation structures and other elements during construction to evaluate methods, workmanship, and compliance with drawings and specs.
• Maintain project records, diaries, notes, and weekly estimates; prepare reports and responses to RFIs.
• Coordinate with contractor personnel and local government to schedule inspections and resolve issues.
• Consult with engineers for field guidance and to resolve field construction issues.
• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract drawings and specs.
• Review shop drawing submittals and assist in bridge inspection reporting.
