Job summary

Stantec’s Environmental Services Cultural Resources Team in Southern California is seeking on-call archaeologists to support fieldwork across multiple sites and projects, including CEQA and Section 106 efforts. Roles involve pre-field planning, surveys, STPs, excavations, documentation, and desktop research, with opportunities for mentorship and diverse field experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology from an accredited university.
• 1-year minimum relevant field experience (field school, internship, lab, CRM field work).
• Experience in California archaeology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pre-field planning, cultural surveys, shovel test pits, test excavations, and monitoring.
• Identify and document precontact and historic resources following state/federal standards.
• Prepare field documents, maps, and photographic logs.
• Use ESRI Field Maps and GPS/GNSS for mapping with sub-meter accuracy.
• Conduct desktop research and DPR 523 forms as needed.
• Support impact assessments and site significance evaluations under NRHP/CRHR criteria.
• Produce timely deliverables: logs, reports, HSSE documentation.
• Follow safety protocols and work well in teams or independently.
• Provide field logistics support and equipment care.
