Job summary

Stantec is seeking on-call archaeologists to support its Southern California Cultural Resources team, with offices across Pasadena and other southern California locations. The role focuses on field surveys, pre-field planning, stakeouts, and monitoring of construction activities, while adhering to state and federal standards.

The position emphasizes flexibility, strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to work in varied field conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or Archaeology required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant field experience (field school, internship, CRM field work).
• Archaeological experience in California preferred.
• Experience with small and large archaeological crews is advantageous.
• Field-based work with exposure to elements and physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Support Field Directors and Project Managers with pre-field planning and cultural surveys.
• Document and record precontact and historic resources per state/federal standards.
• Produce site records, forms, soil descriptions, sketch maps, and photo logs.
• Use GPS/GNSS and GIS tools with sub-meter accuracy.
• Conduct desktop research and prepare DPR 523 forms or equivalent records.
• Contribute to site significance evaluations under NRHP/CRHR criteria.
• Prepare logs, monitoring reports, and HSSE documentation.
• Follow safety protocols and work well in team or independently.
• Provide field logistics support including equipment care and supply coordination.
