Job summary

Oxford Nanopore Technologies seeks a commercially oriented Field Applications Scientist to drive technology adoption and customer success across the Southern Plains territory. This field-based role requires frequent travel (50–70%).

You will partner with Sales to support opportunities, deliver technical guidance, and train diverse audiences in ONT workflows. The role emphasizes collaboration with Technical Services, Product Management, Marketing, and Sales to meet customer and business goals,

Qualifications

• Scientist who balances technical excellence with customer/business goals.
• Strong partner to Sales and internal teams for account strategies.
• Proactive, creative problem-solver with troubleshooting skills.
• Self-motivated, thrives in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
• PhD in Life Sciences preferred, or Master’s with relevant experience.
• Lab background in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, sequencing, or related fields.
• Experience supporting experimental design, sample prep, workflow optimization, and data analysis.
• Strong scientific communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to uncover customer needs and grow technology adoption.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Sales to support commercial opportunities and provide technical expertise throughout the customer lifecycle.
• Deliver pre-sales and post-sales technical support including consultations, workflow discussions, training, and troubleshooting.
• Build and maintain strong technical relationships to ensure adoption of ONT technologies.
• Deliver presentations, workshops, seminars, and training to diverse audiences.
• Collaborate across Technical Services, Sales, Product Management, Marketing, and other teams to meet objectives.
• Develop engagement plans for strategic accounts aligned to customer needs and business priorities.
• Provide timely customer, market, and competitive feedback to internal teams.
• Document customer interactions and support activities in ONT's CRM systems.
• Support colleagues and initiatives beyond territory when required.
