Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to run handheld scanners (Artec Leo, EVA, Space Spider) on diverse projects and deliver meshes, point clouds, and CAD-ready files for client use.

You will plan scans, verify captures, process data in Artec Studio, and coordinate with superintendents. Travel to regional hubs is required; pay ranges from $26 to $40 per hour depending on skill and certifications held.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner on real projects; bring examples.
Knowledge of Artec Studio or similar scan-processing software.
Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
Comfortable on active construction sites and industrial plants; able to carry gear.
Valid driver's license with acceptable record; travel as needed.
Willing to travel and fly with equipment.
Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus.
Certifications (ACI, NICET, ICC) are a plus and sponsorable.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, export to STL/OBJ/ETPP/IGES/CAD.
Produce deviation maps, reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and bolt reports.
Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody.
