Job summary

Forged Fiber is seeking a Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technician to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable across construction, operations, and restoration projects in Des Moines, IA. The role requires hands-on field work, precise documentation, and collaboration with multiple partners.

Candidates should have at least 2+ years in fiber splicing or related telecom work, be able to work outdoors in varying conditions, and meet safety requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid state driver’s license with good driving record.
• 2+ years fiber splicing/telecom outside-plant experience or equivalent training.
• Proficient with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, inspection scope.
• Ability to read construction prints, splice diagrams, maps, and other docs; strong attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with teams and agencies.
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word) and field documentation tools.
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables for construction projects and restorations.
• Troubleshoot faults using OTDR, power meter, and related tools; document results.
• Prepare and repair splice cases/enclosures in aerial, buried, or manhole environments.
• Perform routine tests and repairs to maintain route integrity and service.
• Place and test jumpers; conduct cabinet and panel audits.
• Coordinate with crews and partners to resolve outages and meet schedules; submit splicing reports.
• Use electronic devices for work orders, diagnostics and communication.
• Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines and procedures.
• Learn OLT work, test, and turnup for RT/CO facilities as needed.
