Job summary

Forged Fiber in Omaha, NE is seeking a Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technician to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable for construction, operations, maintenance, and restoration across our fiber networks.

You will work with OTDRs, optical power meters, and fusion splicing equipment while adhering to OSHA and company safety guidelines. This is a full-time position with potential overtime and on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• 2+ years fiber splicing/OSP or related experience.
• Proficient with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, and inspection scope.
• Able to read construction prints, splice diagrams, and design maps.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Able to work in confined spaces with safety practices.
• Able to climb to heights above 18 feet.
• Physically able to stand, walk, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Willing to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, standby.

Responsibilities

• Install, splice (single/multi/fiber ribbon), and test fiber optic cable for construction projects including maintenance and restoration.
• Troubleshoot faults using OTDR, power meter, fiber identifiers, etc.; document tests.
• Prepare, install, audit, and repair splice cases/enclosures across aerial, buried, handhole entries.
• Perform dark fiber, reel, and continuity testing; restore service and route integrity.
• Place and test jumpers in cabinets and perform panel audits.
• Read and interpret construction prints and diagrams; create As-Builts.
• Coordinate with teams to resolve outages and meet schedules; provide field reports.
• Use company devices for work orders, diagnostics, and communication.
• Follow OSHA and other safety requirements and company procedures.
• Learn OLT work, testing, and repair for RT/CO facilities.
