Job summary

AFL is seeking a Broadband Technician to install, troubleshoot, and repair video, data, and telephone services; educate customers on new and existing services and perform routine service audits.

Must have fiber experience, a high school diploma, and at least 3 years as a Broadband Technician. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, and work variable hours including weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have experience working with fiber.
• At least 3 years’ experience working as a Broadband Technician.
• Must be able to work with a 28’ extension ladder.
• Must be able to vertically place ladder up to a height of 26’.
• Must be able to work aloft at heights of 20’ – 26’.
• Must be able to work on the ground in sidewalk boxes to access buried fiber drops.
• Must have own climbing gear or harness.
• Must own small hand tools (screwdriver, wrenches, pliers, wire cutters, etc.).
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen.
• Valid state driver’s license and non-negligent driving record.
• Meet safety restriction weight limit of 275 lbs.
• Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to visually perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Must be able to work flexible hours with possible weekends/holidays.
• Ability to be on call/on standby.

Responsibilities

• Install, change, troubleshoot/repair and disconnect client services including video, data, and telephone.
• Educate customers regarding services and describe advantages of upgrades.
• Buries drops, locates lines and performs service audits.
• Resolves or escalates customer complaints as appropriate.
• Use routing system, plan daily routes, requisition equipment and supplies.
• Complete work orders and documentation by mobile computer.
