Job summary

IQ Fiber is seeking a Construction Technician to oversee daily construction and maintenance of our fiber optic network. The role involves hands-on field work, installing and relocating conduit and fiber, repairing underground plant, and protecting infrastructure during construction activities.

This field-based position requires physical stamina, safety-mindedness, and the ability to work independently in outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 1 year of telecommunications construction experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license with clear MVR, auto insurance, and clean driving record; able to drive at night and in adverse weather.
• Must pass a standard background check and drug screening.
• Available for a 24/7 operation with mandatory overtime, after-hours, and weekend work.
• Ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly, climb ladders up to 28 feet, and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic network infrastructure, including digging by hand or with trenching equipment to place cable underground, pulling fiber‑optic cable through conduit, and relocating conduit and fiber as needed.
• Remove and replace hand holes, vaults, and fiber markers; repair damaged underground plant as issues arise.
• Install, repair, and maintain inside fiber optic cables and MDU boxes.
• Locate and mark existing underground fiber cables based on locate tickets to protect infrastructure during excavation and construction activities.
• Assist with fiber cable damage restoration efforts and troubleshoot network systems to minimize service disruption.
• Ensure OSHA safety standards and state/local regulations; maintain accountability for safety, productivity, quality, and workmanship.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering quality service and maintaining a professional field demeanor.
• Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean, professional manner and present IQ Fiber clothing and appearance.

Education

High school diploma or GED

1 year telecommunications construction experience

Valid driver’s license with clear MVR

Ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Availability for 24/7 operation including overtime

Strong communication skills

Proficient computer skills
