Job summary

IdeaTek in Topeka, KS is hiring a Field Technician to support our growing fiber network. You will perform splicing, FTTH installations, and on-site service drops for customers, in outdoor environments, both aerial and underground.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of telecommunications experience as a splicing or installation technician.
• Valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to work in underground and aerial environments (e.g., climbing ladders up to 32ft and operating a bucket truck).
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must lift up to 80 lbs and operate a bucket truck up to 300 lbs.
• Flexible schedule including Saturdays and/or Sundays.
• DOT physical completed.

Responsibilities

• Perform core fiber splicing in outdoor conditions on aerial and underground networks.
• Document splicing schematics and field notes to ensure timelines.
• Perform FTTH installations, repairs, and service drops to customer premises.
• Diagnose and resolve customer connectivity issues, including VoIP installation.
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service on FTTP, gateways, and WiFi.
• Adhere to DOT/OSHA safety standards while operating bucket trucks.
