Job summary

IdeaTek is seeking a Field Technician to drive the build-out and maintenance of our fiber network in the Topeka region. You’ll splice fiber cables, install FTTH, and troubleshoot residential and business service while delivering excellent customer experiences.

You will work outdoors in varying weather, climb ladders, and operate a bucket truck, with safety and accuracy as top priorities. Competitive compensation is commensurate with experience and role requirements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in telecommunications as a splicing technician or installation technician.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to work in both underground and aerial environments (ladder climbing up to 32ft, bucket truck).
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs and operate a bucket truck up to 300 lbs.
• Flexible schedule with availability on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
• Successful completion of DOT physical.

Responsibilities

• Perform core fiber network duties, including splicing fiber optic cables in outdoor conditions and knowledge of aerial and underground fiber infrastructure.
• Maintain documentation by updating splicing schematics, spreadsheets, and field notes to meet project timelines.
• Execute end-to-end customer installations and repairs, including FTTH installations and service drops to homes or businesses.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including VoIP service installation and troubleshooting.
• Deliver exceptional customer service with a focus on FTTP, gateways, and WiFi.
• Maintain safety/compliance, operate bucket trucks safely per DOT/OSHA standards.
