Job summary

Carrington Mortgage Services in Augusta, Maine, is seeking a dedicated Claims Specialist to prepare, file, and follow up on FHA home retention claims in accordance with investor guidelines. The role reports to CMS processes, with an approved starting hourly rate of $23–$26 and a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.

You will manage loan-level reconciliations, posting, and documentation, while collaborating with teams to resolve denials and timeliness issues.

• Understanding of the loss mitigation and claims process.
• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and quality on loan evaluation.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure and changing priorities.
• Ability to understand opposing points of view and negotiate to serve CMS interests.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work over short to long term.
• Ability to balance and verify numeric results accurately.
• Ability to document detailed reports and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file all HUD claims timely and accurately according to guidelines.
• Follow up semi-daily on all outstanding claim proceeds.
• Perform a loan-level reconciliation for final claim proceeds and outstanding indebtedness.
• Provide posting instructions for claim proceeds within 24 hours of receipt.
• Review and ensure timely completion of all scheduled steps.
• Input completion dates when actions occur and adjust dates as needed.
• Maintain documentation in system notes and image all claim documents.
• Keep HUD audit file organized and up to date.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
