Job summary

Carrington Mortgage Services is seeking a Loss Mitigation FHA Claims Specialist to prepare, file, and follow up on HUD/FHA claims from a remote home office. The role emphasizes timely, accurate processing per investor and CMS guidelines, with a target pay range of $23.00 to $26.00 per hour.

You will perform loan-level reconciliations, provide posting instructions, document servicing actions, and maintain HUD audit files while collaborating with internal teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience; some college preferred.
• 1–2 years mortgage servicing default experience preferred.
• Previous FHA claims experience preferred.
• Understanding the loss mitigation and claims process.
• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and quality on loan evaluation.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure and changing priorities.
• Ability to understand opposing points of view and negotiate to serve CMS.
• Ability to make decisions with moderate impact on the work unit.
• Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file HUD claims timely and accurately according to guidelines.
• Follow up semi-daily on all outstanding claim proceeds.
• Perform loan level reconciliations of claimed vs paid amounts and advances.
• Provide posting instructions for claim proceeds within 24 hours.
• Review and ensure timely completion of all scheduled steps.
• Input the completion date when actions occur.
• Obtain approval and adjust dates if steps cannot be completed.
• Perform routine follow-up on a daily basis.
• Keep Supervisor informed of trends and problems including denials.
• Document servicing actions, delays, and phone conversations in notes.
• Ensure all claim documents are imaged timely.
• Maintain HUD audit file.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
