Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) for full-time, entry and mid-level careers. Base pay varies by grade from GL-5 to GS-11 with potential promotions; recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $30,000 may apply.

Duty locations span across the United States, with comprehensive federal benefits and retirement plans. Selected BPAs will patrol borders, inspect documents, deter illegal entry, and use a range of assets.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision making, and composure in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Combination of general work experience and education may qualify for GL-5/GL-7/GL-9/GS-11 levels.

Responsibilities

• Detect individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-operations techniques.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband; perform farm/building/traffic/transportation checks.
