Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at full-time, entry and mid-level levels across U.S. duty locations.

The role offers competitive base pay, broad federal benefits, generous leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan. Incentives include up to 20,000 USD recruitment, with an additional 30,000 possible over three years. Selection ranges include GL-5 through GS-12 grades with annual base salaries listed by grade.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and composure in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
• Combination of general work experience and education may be substituted for the required education.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near the borders using surveillance and equipment.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry; perform farm/building/traffic/city/transport checks.
• Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels and other assets to fulfill USBP mission.
