Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a hands-on FCM Tech Lead to own the design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data to risk. This role involves leading a major replatforming onto next-gen architecture and reducing legacy dependencies while maintaining code ownership.

You'll work across pods and with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems. The position emphasizes mentorship and raising engineering quality in a regulated trading environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering experience with ownership of distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives exposure, with ownership of lifecycle parts.
• Proficient in Go (preferred) or Java or similar, with event-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated financial environments (CFTC/NFA) emphasizing auditability.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data to risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming to reduce legacy vendor dependencies.
• Set technical standards through code reviews and design reviews.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering quality.
