Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a hands-on FCM Tech Lead to own design across the Futures Commission Merchant core, including market data, order routing, settlement, and risk. You will lead a major replatforming effort, partners across product and risk teams, and mentor engineers to raise quality and scalability.

The role requires deep backend expertise, experience with derivatives, and a track record of end-to-end delivery in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering experience with ownership of complex, production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with hands-on ownership of futures life cycle components.
• Deep proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar) and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated financial environments where correctness, auditability, and reliability are critical.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from market data to settlement and risk.
• Drive next-gen replatforming to reduce legacy dependencies and improve stability.
• Set technical bar via code reviews, design reviews, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate across pods and with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and scale engineering quality across the team.
