Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a hands-on FCM Tech Lead to anchor core systems across market data, order routing, settlement, and risk. You will drive a major replatforming effort, reducing dependencies while maintaining hands-on coding and delivering high-quality, auditable systems.

The role requires extensive backend experience in a regulated environment, with a focus on end-to-end delivery and collaboration across product, risk, and ops. Remote-first with quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering ownership of distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in regulated financial environments with auditability.
• End-to-end delivery, from scoping to implementation and migration of legacy systems.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data and order routing through settlement, reporting, and risk.
• Drive the next‑gen replatforming effort, reducing legacy vendor dependencies while raising stability and reliability.
• Set the technical bar through code, design reviews, and standards, and pay down the technical debt that matters.
• Partner across pods and cross‑functionally with Product, Risk and Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver correct, auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers across the team and act as a force multiplier, scaling engineering quality.
