Coinbase is building the future of regulated derivatives within the Institutional Everything Exchange. As an FCM Tech Lead, you will anchor the FCM lifecycle, guide a major replatforming, and own end-to-end design from data to risk and reporting.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering experience with ownership of distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience across futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in regulated financial environments ensuring correctness and auditability.
• Track record delivering end-to-end projects including replatforming or migrations.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data and order routing through settlement, reporting, and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming effort, reducing legacy dependencies while improving stability.
• Set the technical bar through code, design reviews, and standards; address critical tech debt.
• Partner across pods and cross-functionally with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and scale engineering quality across the team.
