Job summary

The University of Miami seeks a Supervisor, Building Facilities to lead and coordinate facility operations, supervise staff, manage budgets, and ensure safety and compliance across campus.

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, minimum 3 years in a related role, and knowledge of performance management, training, team leadership, and strong verbal/written communication.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required.
• Certification and Licensing: Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Performance Management: Ability to set performance goals, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, and effectively delegate tasks.
• Training & Development: Providing employee training and motivation to enhance skills.
• Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.

Responsibilities

• Keeps watch over facility equipment and ensures any repairs are completed in a timely fashion.
• Maintains records associated with operating the facility, such as inventory of supplies.
• Ensures compliance with applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Coordinates security efforts with facility staff and external entities, such as law enforcement.
• Develops and maintains an emergency preparedness plan to protect the facility and its occupants.
• Seeks and proposes ways to reduce costs while improving efficiency.
• Liaises to external contractors to ensure services provided comply with agreed terms.
• Provides guidance, training, and oversight to facility staff.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
