Job summary

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support our facilities across campuses. The role includes grounds care, cleaning, painting, minor repairs and on-call responsibilities to ensure safe, welcoming environments for residents.

Qualified candidates have a certificate or related training and experience in electrical, plumbing, roofing or carpentry, plus strong organizational skills and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• One year certificate from college or technical school or 3–6 months of related training.
• Experience with electrical, plumbing, roofing and carpentry is required.
• Good organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Cuts the grass and trims weeds on the organization's property.
• Cleans the internal areas of the buildings, including buffing, dusting, sweeping and mopping.
• Washes the windows of the building.
• Empties trash cans and consolidates trash for weekly pick-up.
• Paints interior and exterior walls and trim.
• Repairs parking lot and sidewalk asphalt, cold patching materials and concrete.
• Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots and sidewalks.
• Maintains and repairs the building's plumbing and electrical systems; including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
• Repairs or replaces building's bricks, stones and concrete.
• Assumes responsibility for supervision of the department in the absence of the environmental director.
• This position involves being on-call.
