Job summary

Shepherd of the Valley is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the care facilities with routine maintenance and repairs. The role requires multi-trade skills including electrical, plumbing, roofing and carpentry, plus solid organizational ability and a valid driver’s license.

You will perform groundskeeping, cleaning tasks, window washing, trash handling, painting, concrete work, and basic building system repairs.

Qualifications

• One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training.
• Must have a background in electrical, plumbing, roofing, and carpentry.
• Good organizational skills required.
• Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Cuts the grass and trims weeds on the organization's property.
• Cleans the internal areas of the buildings, including buffing, dusting, sweeping and mopping.
• Washes the windows of the building.
• Empties trash cans and consolidates trash for weekly pick-up.
• Paints interior and exterior walls and trim.
• Repairs parking lot and sidewalk asphalt, cold patching materials and concrete.
• Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots and sidewalks.
• Maintains and repairs the building's plumbing and electrical systems; including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
• Repairs or replaces building's bricks, stones and concrete.
• Assumes responsibility for supervision of the department in the absence of the environmental director.
• This position involves being on-call.
