Job summary

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to manage daily maintenance and facility needs at the Summit YMCA branch, with coverage across multiple nearby sites as needed. This full-time role reports to the Facilities Director and provides hands-on repairs and guidance to maintenance staff.

You will perform preventive maintenance, manage work orders, coordinate with vendors, and assist with major projects while ensuring safety and a welcoming environment for members and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
• 3+ years hands-on experience in building maintenance or facilities operations.
• Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry basics; troubleshoot skills.
• Ability to prioritize maintenance needs, manage multiple work orders, and follow through on projects.
• Experience with preventive maintenance scheduling, inspections, vendor coordination, and inventory management.
• Ability to serve as a technical resource and coordinate daily work with staff; previous lead experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safe chemical handling; operate tools safely.
• Ability to read technical instructions and maintenance manuals.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily facility walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns; conduct repairs and general maintenance.
• Manage maintenance requests and work orders, keeping accurate records and communicating progress.
• Coordinate daily work priorities with maintenance and housekeeping staff; provide hands-on support.
• Coordinate vendor services, inspections, and corrective work with the Facilities Director.
• Support safe, reliable pool operations with Aquatics staff.
• Maintain supplies, tools, and equipment; recommend repairs or improvements.
• Assist with facility projects, event setups, seasonal grounds upkeep, and snow/ice removal.
• Respond to urgent maintenance needs and after-hours facility emergencies.
• Collaborate with branch leadership to minimize disruptions and maintain a welcoming environment.
