Job summary

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to manage daily maintenance and facility needs across multiple sites. This full-time role reports to the Facilities Director and may support Berkeley Heights, Springfield Pool, The Learning Circle YMCA, and Association Services as needed.

You will perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and coordinate work with vendors while guiding maintenance staff. A strong candidate will lead projects and ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training preferred.
• At least three years of hands-on experience in building maintenance or facilities operations.
• YMCA, fitness or recreation center, or pool facility experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance.
• Ability to prioritize work orders and manage multiple tasks with follow-through.
• Experience coordinating with vendors and maintaining records.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and pool equipment.
• Manage maintenance requests and work orders with accurate records.
• Coordinate daily priorities with maintenance and housekeeping staff and provide hands-on support.
• Coordinate vendor services and inspections with the Facilities Director.
• Support safe, reliable pool operations with Aquatics staff.
• Maintain supplies, tools, and equipment; recommend repairs or improvements.
• Assist with facility projects, events, seasonal grounds upkeep, and snow/ice removal.
• Respond to urgent maintenance and after-hours emergencies; remain calm and decisive.
• Collaborate with branch leadership to minimize disruptions and maintain a welcoming environment.
