Outstanding opportunity to work as a Facility Maintenance and Food Manager for a successful company in Chicago. This is a direct hire / permanent position with a well-established company.

Job Description

Manage, through subordinate supervisors, skilled employees engaged in installing, maintaining, and repairing the facility’s operating systems, including but not limited to, the engine room, refrigeration, ammonia, wastewater, and process safety management systems. Responsibilities include setting and enforcing maintenance policies and procedures, supervising maintenance staff, and developing and managing maintenance budgets.

  1. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the maintenance department, including purchasing, training, scheduling, preventive maintenance, budgeting, and inventory control.
  2. Supervise maintenance staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  3. Lead safety and environmental risk management activities, including communication, recordkeeping, training, contractor management, and reporting.
  4. Coordinate equipment audits with external auditors, review results, implement recommendations, and document processes.
  5. Procure and oversee outside technicians, contractors, or OEMs to support in-house mechanics.
  6. Develop and oversee training programs, identify gaps, and ensure compliance.
  7. Inspect building systems periodically to ensure compliance with preventive maintenance and identify issues.
  8. Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments to support operational goals.
  9. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including handling hazardous materials and wastewater.
  10. Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and parts.
  11. Respond to or oversee after-hours emergency repairs.
  12. Maintain safe and sanitary working conditions in accordance with regulations.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of maintenance management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry or a regulated industry.
  • Expertise in plant equipment and systems, including ammonia refrigeration, hydraulics, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience managing complex installation and modification projects with significant capital expenditure.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to supervise and lead teams effectively.
  • Work environment includes manufacturing conditions with temperature variations and PPE requirements.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform related tasks; vision must include close vision for computer use.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience and skills.
