Job summary

Compass Housing Alliance in Seattle is seeking a Program Assistant for the North Beacon Hill shelter to monitor safety, assist guests, and support program staff. This unionized role aids in delivering trauma-informed services and connecting guests with resources.

The position reports to the Program Supervisor, is onsite, and requires evening and weekend shifts. Strong communication, confidentiality, and knowledge of local housing resources are valued.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in a social/human service setting.
• Fluent reading, writing, and understanding English.
• Experience working with housing instability, mental health, or related topics preferred.
• WA State Food Handlers Permit preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed monitoring of activity to ensure safety and comfort of guests, residents, participants and staff.
• Mediate conflicts and perform de-escalation and crisis intervention; refer to appropriate services as needed.
• Assist in program activities, including meal services, laundry assistance, group activities, or other tasks.
• Engage guests to assess needs and provide information and referrals.
• Respond to issues as directed by program management or property management; report needs to management.
