Job summary

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet, pre-register, and register patients, verify insurance benefits, and determine the need for pre-certification, authorization, and referrals.

The role requires attention to insurance verification, patient financial responsibility, and providing courteous customer service. Rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may occur to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalency.
• Minimum one year experience ininsurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.
• Must have Outpatient Registration experience.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet and pre-register patients in a courteous, professional manner.
• Verify insurance benefits and check for pre-certification/authorization/referral needs.
• Perform medical necessity checks where needed and obtain required signatures.
• Coordinate patient financial responsibilities and collect payments when required.
• Communicate revenue cycle issues to patients, physicians and staff; rotate through Patient Access areas.
