Job summary

The Salvation Army in Richmond, VA seeks a Casual Shelter Support position to help ensure safety, comfort, and wellbeing of shelter clients. Responsibilities include monitoring client conduct, assisting with intake, and maintaining a clean, orderly shelter environment.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED and prior security or social service experience is preferred. CPR/First Aid certification is a plus. Shifts include evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• One year experience performing security or social service work preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Monitors shelter clients safety, comfort, and compliance with house rules.
• Supports inclement weather shelter operations, prepares sleeping and dining areas, checks‑in clients, distributes items, and cleans areas during shifts.
• Regulates lights out/curfew/quiet hours for safety and comfort.
• Responds calmly to emergencies and initiates corrective actions per policies and procedures.
