Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a Shelter Aide to provide overnight support for clients in residence at our shelter program.

You will assist with daily needs, meal preparation, and ensuring a clean, orderly shelter while upholding shelter policies and facilitating referrals to social services as clients move toward discharge.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required or equivalent experience.
• Experience in social services or shelter setting preferred.
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to ethics policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist shelter clients with daily needs while in residence.
• Assist with meal and snack preparation, serving, and clean-up.
• Keep shelter area clean and orderly.
• Ensure residents follow shelter policies and procedures.
• Arrange transportation for clients needing medical care.
• Facilitate referrals to social service agencies for discharge planning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary: The Shelter Aide ensures overnight clients receive quality services by providing assistance while they are in residence at The Salvation Army program.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assist shelter clients with their daily needs while they are in residence in the shelter
• Assist with meal and snack preparation, serving, and clean-up
• Assure the shelter area is kept clean and orderly
• Assure residents follow shelter policies and procedures
• Transport or arrange for transportation of clients needing medical care
• Facilitate referrals to area social service agencies to move client toward discharge from the shelter
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Maintain strict client confidentiality
• Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics
• Adhere to professional codes of ethics as they apply to professional licensing
• Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization
• Demonstrate a continued effort to increase self-awareness and to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation

Computer Skills:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
• Basic computer skills

Certificates and Licenses:

• Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
